Delhi University Inter-College Women's Handball Tournament
Every year Delhi University organizes inter-college tournaments of various sports in which different students of Delhi University participate to represent their respective colleges.
This year's women's handball inter-college tournament commenced at Janki Devi Memorial College from 4th October to 9th October. Matches started on the 4th of October and the opening match was played between Daulat Ram College and Shyama Prasand Mukhrji College in which SPM won. Last year's first three winners (JMC,Maitreyi and IGIPESS) turned up for the matches on 5th October.
The first match on 5th October was conducted between, Khalsa College and JDM in which JDM won. The next match was conducted between Shyama Prasad Mukherji and Jesus and Mary College in which JMC held a clear victory and another match between IGIPESS and Lakshmibai college was played, in which IGIPESS won.
6th October was rest due to Sunday and on 7th October, JMC lost to IGIPESS and Maitreyi won from Janki Devi. On 8th October, JMC won from Maitreyi and IGIPESS won from Janki Devi Memorial College.
The tournament concluded on 9th October with two matches, first between Jesus and Mary College and Janki Devi Memorial College, in which Jesus and Mary won. The other match was conducted between IGIPESS and Maitreyi College where IGIPESS won.
IGIPESS bagged the first place, Jesus and Mary College stood second and Maitreyi College stood 3rd.
"Winners do not wait for victory to come to them, they go and grab it. Since we had lost from Maitreyi College last year, we wanted to win from them at any cost this year and we proved our potential. I am proud of our team. I thank our coach Shivaji Sir for all the support," said Aishwarya Singh, the captain of the handball team, Jesus and Mary College.
Players on the basis of their performance in this tournament will be further selected for inter-university trials and then the final team of Delhi University will participate in the upcoming Inter-University tournament at Haryana next month.
