Asmita Theatre Group at IIT-Delhi
Asmita Theatre Group was in full fervor while delivering its play 'Operation Three Star' at IIT-Delhi as part of Literati 2013. The seminar hall was thronged with people who had come exclusively to witness the superb stage play by the most famous Theatre group of Delhi. The myriad moods and emotions radiating from the play very gently caught up with the audience. The play lasted 80 minutes and it was full of entertainment and social messages.
The play 'Operation Three Star' is an adaptation of internationally recognized play Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo. The play very lucidly depicts corruption in the police forces. It revolves around impersonation, infiltration, and double-talk. The character of 'The Maniac' played by Gaurav Mishra was pivotal in bringing to light the criminal folly of the law enforcing agency in its endeavors to cover up a heinous action of them. He thoroughly mocked at the police's shaky case and forced them to reenact the situation that led to the suicide of a man accused to be a terrorist. It was very pathetic to see the miserable way in which the police goes about its proceedings in reality.
Nikhil Patidar a second year IIT-D student says 'The play touched my heart. There was a deep message underneath the laughter which this play was constantly supplying. People must be aware of what actually goes on in society and plays like these do good justice to that.'
Asmita Theatre Group is one of the leading theatre groups of the country and stands committed to aesthetically innovative and socially relevant theatre. Since its inception in 1993, Asmita has carved a niche for itself in the Indian theatre scene by staging plays of varied socio-political interest while not losing on mass appeal. Arvind Gaur, the director of Asmita says 'I believe that theatre is a living and dynamic medium. Both the quality and quantity of plays have gotten better and they are very popular with the youth.'
Asmita Theatre Group performs at IIT-D and various collages across Delhi quite frequently.
