It is not everyday that one gets to play a role in shaping the future of one's Alma mater. Currently in its 4th year, IIM Rohtak (IIM-R) organized "The Leadership Journey", a strategic directional workshop, to chart a course for the future strategy and vision and to give shape to the 'IIM-R experience', on 20 December 2012.

We, the students, got an opportunity to provide suggestions as to how IIM-R should evolve in areas such as academic architecture, pedagogy and learning culture, domains of focus, intellectual environment, leadership and governance. Shri. Ravi Kant, Vice Chairman, Tata Motors Ltd - Chairman, Board of Governors and members of the International Advisory Council - Shri. Harsh Manglik, former CMD, Accenture India, Prof. Lalit Johri, Said Business School, University of Oxford addressed the gathering and spoke about how IIM Rohtak had the power to mold things the way it wanted to, it being now in its formative years.

Overall it was an enriching experience for us, with discussions focusing on the importance of industry, government and academic (Indian & Global) partnerships, social development projects, importance of agriculture for India in terms of employment potential etc. It was decided to bring more flexibility in course design and take industry inputs on a regular basis. Extensive faculty development programs, a 360 degree feedback system and mechanisms to encourage diversity among students were also proposed. Priyadarshee, a student who took part in the initiative said "It has been an enriching experience for me to participate in The Leadership Journey, as it has given me a perspective on the challenges of building an institution!". His words echo the sentiments of the participants.

The event gave us the rare opportunity of taking part in the institution-building process, sharing our vision of IIM-R in the coming years and shaping its destiny – leaving our fingerprints on the sands of time – as one of the visiting dignitaries put it!
