Beyond the obvious of Miranda House

Miranda House. I loved the college's name and everything I knew about it when joined it, except the fact that it was an only-for-women college. Talking around and backstabbing, boredom, lots of makeup, too many BTMs around, was what I had expected, in a way, supposing Miranda to be like any of those typical women's colleges. But, I was in for a shock, or better said, a couple of them. Miranda's about freedom, exploring DU, living and breathing DU. From the college's Principal, the administrative staff and faculty, to the housekeeping staff and the guards, all talk warmth and cooperation. You need help, and they all extend a hand of cooperation, with warmth.

The college's societies, Hindi and English Dramatics, Western and Indian Music and Dance, and a number of others like the Gandhi Study Circle, the Film Club, the Women's Development Cell, the Entrepreneurship Cell, et al, all boast of some of the most talented people in campus, and impart within you a sense of freedom. The college's building is a marvel in red sandstone.

Visit it once and you'll definitely fall in love with it. Every part of the campus, be it the façade, the front lawns, the science lawns, the hostel lawns, the gallery area, the classrooms, or the Nescafe lawns, all have the power to mesmerize you. Even if a student is alone, the place is enough of a company. We don't really expect a DU college to have world class laboratories, but Miranda House is an exception in this aspect as well. The laboratories are one of the finest in the country. In terms of infrastructure and maintenance of the college at large as well, Miranda House surpasses all other colleges of the varsity.

If you happen to be a movie buff, then the college's the perfect choice for you. In session 2011-12, Holywood filmmaker Mira Nair (a college alumna) was here to shoot her next movie 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' with British actor Riz Ahmed, Manoj Bajpeyi and Jimmy Shergill shot for 'Special Chhabeez', Farhan Akhtar for 'Bhag Milkha Bhaag' and Imtiaz Ali paid a visit for a day as a pre-Tempest event.

Miranda House allows you to grow. It allows you to learn beyond the academics. It offers the students ample opportunities to learn, outside the classroom as well. The faculty is one of the most hard working and dedicated one. I'm proud of the choice I made 3 years back.
