Entrepreneurship at IIT Madras
Having a business idea isn't enough. The effort to realize it is indeed one of the most tedious jobs. For students at IIT Madras, entrepreneurship is not a far-fetched vision. With the setup of C-TIDES students of IIT Madras, otherwise devoid of any support, can now turn up with a potential idea and give their vision a practical possibility for a good start-up along with opportunities to compete with the best of the business ideas around the world and prove their dedication.
C-TIDES, is the entrepreneurship cell of I.I.T Madras, which motivates students to start business ventures on their own and help them follow their passion. IIT Madras has been long known for its dedication to student-initiated entrepreneurship. C-TIDES, the official institute body charged with the task of motivating budding student entrepreneurs and helping them gain access to the necessary skills and resources for the same, has been instrumental in the setting up of 12 start-ups run by students of IIT Madras.
Apart from spreading awareness about the vast opportunities that entrepreneurship provides and motivating budding entrepreneurs through lecture series, workshops, brainstorming sessions and other intra-institute competitions, C-TIDES also organizes 2 widely acclaimed business plan competitions-Genesis(Asia's largest social business plan competition) and Breakthrough, the technical business plan competition which have not only attracted multitudes of ideas from across the globe but have also been instrumental in helping those ideas take off and blossom into promising commercial ventures.
Instrumental in establishing robust & sustainable entrepreneurial culture at IIT Madras, C-TIDES organizes numerous year round activities & intra collegial events namely Case-Studies Analysis, Speed Pitch, Entre-slam, Co-founder Dating, E-Club, Entre-slam etc. CTIDES also has a well-established incubation center, currently incubating 6 early stage start-ups. This facility provides mentorship support along with free office space for student-led start-ups.
C-TIDES has come a long way after it's incubation as one of the most sought after entrepreneurship cell of any college in terms of the quality of support and knowledge generation.
