Music is something from which one can't detach oneself. Fervency, thirst, love, mania: whatever it may be called, it is in fact a way of life. For some it is an art, for some it's a job and for others, it remains their best amateur interest. But the level of competition which student's life faces today is appaling! This has not only kept them away from avocation but made their life much more uneventful.

Fests, a break from the monotonous schedules of classroom, showcase their talent to the people and helps in boosting their confidence. Symbiosis Law School Pune's imminent fest Symbhav is on its way to become the biggest of its kind when it comes to music, and according to the organizers, this time the experience is going to be way more splendid.

When you're brought up playing classical music out of a book, you probably cringe when someone asks you, "Can't you just sit down and play something?"

For some students of classical, this often-heard phrase is as good as being asked to play ragtime or jazz, genres that evoke that notion of complete abandon from what's on the page. So, imagine what happens when students from across the country coming to the bastion of Carnatic music for cross-cultural exchanges and upgrading their skills may sound like a 'vivadi' swara. This time "PALLAVI", Indian Classical Music (Vocals) event will be another feather on Symbhav's already much-feathered hat. 'PA' comes from Padam or Phrase, 'LLA' comes from Layam or Rhythm and 'Vi' comes from Vinyasam or Imagination. Ankita Das, Cultural Event Coordinator said, "Symbhav'11 displayed its zest for music by performances by Mr. Kutle Khan, an established member of the Rajasthani Collective and Mr. Feroz Khan, whose saxophone worked magic for all presented in campus. This time we are expecting similar guests for judging events like PALLAVI."

We are undoubtedly living in a period of rapid cultural and social change. Music has also witnessed some dramatic transformation from 'The Little River Band' to 'The Beatles', from 'Beat-X' to 'Junkyard Groove'. With the changing tastes and demands of the people, music has also been constantly renovated and enhanced. This is the main idea behind the theme of Symbhav'11, "Carnival of Change": to create a stimulus which can influence our lives and time. Through music, Symbhav is making an effort to showcase this spur. Plato, Classical Greek Philosopher and Mathematician, has correctly said, "If you want to measure the spiritual depth of society, make sure to mark it's music."

Vishnu Gopinath, head of the Music Events, said, "This year besides PALLAVI, Symbhav has other musical events like Acoustic band event- "UNPLUGGED 101", specifically under my guidance, Music and Lyrics, an annual Symbhav western solo vocal competition which is not only for budding singers but the bathroom performers as well, "Pancham", the light Hindi music solo event, "For those about to rock competition" and many other exciting events. Cultural events are flooded with so many musical events that I'm pretty sure, students won't feel like sitting back."

Symbhav '11 witnessed a grand success in Dance events as well. It brought forth a variety of events on the first day including two of the most anticipated ones- The Group Dance and The Rock show. With a combined prize of money of INR 1 Lakh, the two events single handedly attracted a crowd which packed the campus entirely. This time too there are Group Dance and Solo Dance events to bring back last year's enthusiasm but with a twist of 'theme based performance'. As one of the flagship events of Symbhav, the theme is The Celebration of Change!!!

Music, Dance, Rock Band Events with a Revolution...a Change sounds peculiar. Isn't it? With the positive response of the sponsors and huge followers on Facebook and Twitter, Symbhav'11 attained a lot more attention which shows the impending event would be an extravaganza. The Co-Convenor Udit Garg said, "We didn't expect the positive response from the people so early. This has not only buoyed up our confidence levels but encouraged us to make Symbhav getter better!" With February 24 just around the corner, these beats of change are sure to echo from the Senapati Bapat Road Campus not only across the city but also through the entire college circuit in the country.
