Vishal-Shekhar at SRCC

The performance by Vishal and Shekhar was undoubtedly the highlight of the first day of Crossroads. Recent incidents in other fests had brought to light the flimsy security in most colleges and how it sometimes led to stampede-like situations during celebrity performances. It was thus a matter of great pride that the crowds at the performance were perfectly serene and the arrangements made were extremely thoughtful and competent.
The high cost of the passes deterred many from entering and the security at the entrances was usually tight. What is also commendable is that the parking lot, where the performance was held, was divided by barricades into two areas- one strictly for girls and one for boys. This was a great relief for many girls as we didn't have to fret over rowdy elements in crowds. Although, Vishal-Sekhar kept the crowd waiting for a while, their tardiness was soon forgotten as the crowds screamed with enthusiasm on their arrival.
Vishal and Shekhar started off with Bachna Ae Haseeno, a song that reduced the girls into a shrieking, screeching horde. They followed with Salaam Namaste, Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, I Hate Luv Storys and many more of their popular numbers. They interacted with the crowds, who were so obviously enjoying their songs. Shekhar was an instant favourite with the girls, who chanted his name endlessly. One could often hear shouts of 'Marry Me Shekhar!' from the girls area.
The audience sang all the songs with Vishal-Shekhar, be it Bin Tere, Chhammak Challo or Sheila Ki Jawani. The duo was energetic and spontaneous and their enthusiasm was infectious. They made us jump, wave our hands in the air and do bhangra. Their exit was marked by great applause and it was general concensus that those who couldn't see them perform missed something big.
