In Focus: TSEC Societies -IEEE

The world is getting smaller day by day. Advancements in science and technology have brought people closer to each other, revolutionized the thought process and pushed people to their limits.

In this fast paced and fiercely competitive environment one desperately feels the need of being guided by a professional. When you think of such an organization, one name that comes to mind immediately is the IEEE. The IEEE helps achieve global prosperity by promoting engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing and applying knowledge for the benefit of humanity and the profession.

IEEE has various student branches in the world, and one such branch is the student branch of our college, which is not only one of the largest, but also one of the most prestigious student branches in the world.

IEEE-TSEC presently has four student branch chapters, namely the Communication Society, Computer Society, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and Industrial Electronics Society. Each society has its own committees, apart from the IEEE-TSEC 'Mains' Committee which acts as a supervising body for all chapters.

One major achievement of IEEE-TSEC so far has been the organization of ISAAC(IEEE Student's Activities And Conferences), which was held on a bigger scale than its inception years ago. It was a three-day event, which included a plethora of workshops, programming contests and technical paper presentation, contests like robotics and quiz, fun events like gaming sessions and seminars by eminent companies.

Also, a 10-day visit to Hyderabad, Ooty, Munnar was organized which gave many students the privilege of visiting reputed companies as Microsoft coupled with fun activities to make the visit memorable. The IEEE-TSEC website(http://www.ieee-tsec.org) has been completely revamped, with a lot of useful information.

Let us now move towards the student branch chapters. The Communications Society emphasizes on the telecommunication sector with a focus on topics such as satellite communication, data transfer technologies etc. This chapter organizes events like TECHNO every year.

The Computer Society organizes various software courses for its members throughout the year.
This chapter organizes events like MOSAIC every year. The Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society targets at updating its members with the latest technologies in medical field.This is done by organizing various seminars and hospital/industrial visits from time to time. The Industrial Electronics Chapter, concentrates on industrial aspects of technology. It has an annual event called SPARK.
