SRites vs. Venkys: Boy's Final Football match

The final boys' football match in SRCC's annual Festival of Youth Sport (FOYS) was one to remember. The morning of the 4^th of February turned out to be especially pleasant and hence the perfect match day for the athletes as well as the spectators. A huge number of SRites showed up to support their team in winning the final match. There was a great deal of energy amongst the crowd as cheering ensued at every hint of a goal being scored.

Till half time both teams were tied at 0-0. Each team had its own set of strengths and weakness that were counterbalanced against the other team. Just as the spectators were starting to think that the match might end with a tiebreaker, a SRCC player scored the first goal of the game a few minutes after half time. The goal was well timed and shot with perfection. Needless to say, the crowd burst out cheering.

A few minutes later, the crowd bore witness to an ugly scene when two players from opposite teams got into a small brawl. It was made worse by a couple of random strangers who came in and started beating the Venky player. Fortunately, other players from each team came to break off the fight. A few minutes later, the game started again and it was as if the scene had never happened in the first place.

At the end of the 90 minutes, SRCC was declared the winner. It was indeed an ecstatic moment for the crowd and the song "Baar Baar Haan," from the movie, Lagaan was aptly blasted through the speakers. As the boys from SRCC celebrated their victory, the spectators congratulated each other on being in the winning college's side. Those who had bunked classes or stayed back in college to watch the game were well rewarded with a spectacular game to view.
