MCC-Madras Christian College a.k.a Mallu Chinki College is known for its overpopulation of Keralites and North East people. Even though we claim that we have got a cosmopolitan atmosphere, the bengalis constitute only a minority. Hardly 20 out of 6000 students!!! Now you must have got what i meant by "minority". Yes, the Bong population is considered to be the 'endangered species' in this entire MCC forest.

But don't ever underestimate them as minority!!!! Known for their poetic hearts and sharp minds, Bongs in MCC really excel in whatever they do. Present Martin Hall Literary and Debating Sec Kheya Datta, Former Selaiyur Hall Literary and Debating Sec Shantanu Dev Chatterjee, The poet Avik Das, the chatterbox Ananya Chanda and the list goes on and on. Avik Das, popularly known as Avik Da, can crack subtle jokes within snaps and for sure the target won't be missed for once!! That is actually a skill and no one can ever beat him in that.

On 26th January 2009, the first unofficial Bong association in MCC came into being-AAMRA which means 'hamara' in Hindi and 'Ours' in English. They organize mainly 'addas'. Addas are usually quite common in W. Bengal. It is a regular gathering of a group of people, where they will discuss almost everything under the sun.

During the addas of Aamra, you can also take part. But, Caution:If you don't know Bangla, RUN!!!!! Because out of personal experience I can assure you one thing-They are definitely going to make fun of you if you are an alien to the language!! But, don't worry, the Modern Mother Teresa, Ritwika Nath will be always ready with live subtitles to help you out. But still, it is better to know the language ... Free advice hain bhai!!! lena hain toh le lo!!

But whatever it may be, Bong culture is something which is very unique. Getting closer to the Bong community of MCC is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Draping sarees in the typical Bengali way and posing for pics, learning 'Amake amar', 'Bela Bose' and numerous other songs, listening to their cribbings when they don't get a chance to be at home during 'Durga Puja'.... Yes, my Bong friends gave me a lot of memories to cherish forever in my life... They are the most 'mishchi' people I have ever met in my life...Their 'Kemon aacho' and 'Bhaalo aachi' truly makes my day!!

Yes, my dear Bong friends, "Ami tomake khoob bhalobashi"
