APJ Abdul Kalam @ BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus
Few things can actually beat the competition to the seats of IITs, IIMs and BITS but on 31st January the students finally knew what. If the reason itself is epic then the deed becomes a legend. This is exactly what happened when Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam visited BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus on 1st February, 2012. 200 seats for students in the main lecture theatre where Dr. Kalam would be live were filled in about 20 seconds and all 2000 in about 15 minutes when 50 minutes were scheduled for the entire online reservation! Epic LOL!
The Missile man of India and Bharat Ratna awarded Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's presence was so overwhelming and so concrete that you had to think it was incredible. For an eighty year old man he walked with a very straight gait and stood for almost an hour during his lecture. Dream role model for everyone. He started his speech raptly recollecting all of his memories, distilling knowledge and feeding us with it with utmost care. His vision 2020 which he believes when India will be a global super power was truly endearing. He pulled us like a vortex into his perfect world and India and encouraged us to share his imagination. Not discounting the role of free young minds he urged us to show more patriotism and made us take an oath that we would strive for excellence and perfection.
He also made it a point to shake hands with almost every student who step forward and even autographed for a few. For the lucky 200, it was an amazing experience as Inspiration literally flowed into our blood. He took five questions from students which he explained as a father would to a child and even complimented a student for his insightful question. His 50 minutes lecture passed very quickly and he was presented with a memento. His books Wings on Fire, Ignited Minds and Mission 2020 were added to our Library collection. He was given a portrait of Himself drawn by a student which he accepted graciously
