Second Indian Student Parliament at MITSOM

The second edition of the INDIAN STUDENT PARLIAMENT, an initiative of MIT School of Government was hosted from 10th to 12th January, 2012 in the MIT Campus. The parliament was attended by more than 7000 students across the Country and was addressed by great leaders, philosophers and entrepreneurs from various backgrounds.

The 3 day event was divided into 9 sessions based on the various topics to be discussed by the great personalities invited for the same. The registration for the event was open to all with a mere registration fee of Rs. 800/- per participant. Some of the sessions at the event were addressed by World and National leaders like His Holiness Dalai Lama, Chief Ministers Prithviraj Chavan, Nitish Kumar (Bihar) and Omar Abdullah (Jammu & Kashmir), Union Ministers Shashi Tharoor and Ajay Maken, former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan among other renowned personalities.

The sessions were broadly divided and comprised of thought provoking topics such as "Politics of Development", "Where is India's Obama", "Corporate Social Responsibility – Business Beyond Profits", "Corruption Free India – Dream or Reality", " Social Networking for Social Change" and more. Each of the session was concluded by a " Resolution" which was voted for by all the participants, dignitaries, volunteers and all those present there and was passed on to the Union Ministry on behalf of the Indian Student Parliament, raising their voice for or against the resolution.
The student participants, who came from different states, were given accommodation in the campus. Food and snacks were also provided to all of them during the entire event. Strict attention was also given to the presence of all the participants in all the sessions by conducting attendance on daily basis.
