No prelims? We're loving it!
So the February wind brought along with the chill a seriousness wave too. For all the final year students it was a shocker when the Preliminary Examination time-table was put up on the terror-board (read: Notice Board) and it gave the attack date as 10th of February. Not that the marks of Prelims matter any how in the final report, but just the thought of examination makes students sit down and open their books. Nevertheless at least buy them. It comes as a warning that the main exams are now approaching.
The scenario in the college changed for a week or so. The nerds wanted to make full utilization of this opportunity to know their preparation, for working students it was just an excuse to take an off from office and for some it was just a compulsion to appear. Everybody was studying and taking it all seriously and everything, till the "possibly- very- much-true" rumour started taking the rounds of our corridors. Result: Open books turned upside down.
Apparently most of the flock will not be permitted by the college authorities to appear for this examination stating the crime we committed as-low attendance. So it is another story of NM college going strict and showing students how much attendance matters in this college. Confirming with ex-students, the previous years were also not allowed to give the prelims for their low attendance. Rumours say, this year the cut off is going to be as high as 75%. So anybody who has lower attendance, can happily stop studying as exams are not happening and the main exams are still far away. The little bit dedication that was developed amongst students has been wiped out with this rule. Students also believe that this is capable of happening as even stricter measures have been adopted in the past by the management.
But the question here is, does it really matter? Its prelims, students even if appear for the
examinations never bother about the marks
