Feb 9th 2012 07:15AM

The placement Cell of Mount Carmel College has been up and running since the year 2002. Its main aim is to provide students with opportunities to get placed in leading multinational corporations, banks, educational institutions, biotech firms etc and give students the training that will help them excel while pursuing these opportunities.

Mount Carmel College has a large student body comprising of girls from all streams- arts, science and commerce. This allows a wider range of companies to visit the college and pick the right set of students that they are interested in recruiting. All students undergo career counseling as part of their third year placement process and this is conducted by a professional counselor who is available every day for guidance. Training also plays a huge part before students go forward for placements. Various activities such as aptitude tests, resume writing, interview skills, group discussions and mock interviews are conducted in order to prepare the students for the rigorous placement process of any company. When a company visits, a presentation is first conducted to familiarize the students with the role of the position and the features of the company. This is then followed by the first few rounds of recruitment which usually take place on the same day. The final interviews are sometimes held off campus at the company's head office. Second year students are also given internships and part-time jobs and MCA students are given projects in companies like HP and GSK.

Valuable insight into the companies is continuously supplied by the alumni placed in these companies of previous years and this helps the placement officers prepare the next batch of students during placement season. Some of the companies that have visited the college and placed students this year are Google, Deloitte, DE Shaw India Software Pvt. Ltd, Accenture, Ernst and Young, Tata AIG, Biocon, Goldman Sachs, HCL,
