What are colleges without their student unions these days? A student union heads the entire student body of the college and leads the way for the entire year. Mount Carmel College's strength stems from the union who take up the responsibilities of the college right from planning the activities for the year to addressing the students' needs.
Our elected President for the year 2011-2012 is Anaha R. Narayan, a third year Bcom student. Wise, approachable and a good decision maker, she is our go to girl whenever we have any queries and issues to be addressed. When asked about her experience as the president of the college she says, "As cliché as it sounds, being in the union is a roller coaster ride. The simplest way to make sure that you are going up and not down is to be positive, and believe that everything will work out for the best. It also helps to smile every now and then".
Soumi Bhattacharjee, our Cultural Secretary for the year is a vivacious and quirky third year arts student. She's also an active member of the Western Music Association of the college. She's in charge of organizing the fests of the college, including the famous inter-college 'CUL-AH' fest.
Soumi says, "Being the Cultural Secretary I have to say, is fun and difficult at the same time. You have to sacrifice many things but at the end of the day you get that satisfied feeling about yourself."
Anaha's twin sister, Anala R. Narayan, who is always jovial and thoughtful, is also part of our college union. As the assistant Cultural Secretary, she says "I feel like I've learn so much for this role. It's been a great experience. I've helped raise sponsorship money and organize fests. We have so handled things that have sprung up last minute and now I feel I can handle anything thrown my way."
