Part II: How to give your teacher the impression that you're paying attention in class

Do you suffer from attention deficit disorder? Do you find blank walls more interesting than your lecturers? While in class, do you often picture yourself jumping out of the window and escaping? Have you shook your head to each of these questions, but still want to give your teacher the impression that you're paying attention in class?

Then read on, matey!

1. Maintain constant eye-contact with the teacher.

For some strange reason, teachers take this to mean that you're listening to what they're saying. You could be thinking of anything, from sunflowers to Mick Jagger, but as long you're looking seriously at the teacher throughout class, he/she will take it for granted that they have your full attention.

Word of caution – when I say "maintain eye contact", I do not mean stare at them with mouth half-open and glazed eyes, or track their every movement with hawk-eyes. A fine balance has to be maintained between these two extremes to avoid suspicion.

2. Nod gravely from time to time.

You could accompany this with a small frown, to make it look as if you've put a lot of thought into that nod. Timely nods are important to make the professor believe that not only are you listening to her/him with all your might, but you're also pondering over what they're saying. If the professor wants to know what exactly you're nodding so seriously about, you can wave your hand mysteriously and say "Sir, I'd like to discuss this after class" and go back to your ponderings. Do make sure you slip out of class before the professor catches hold of you, though.

3. Whenever questions are asked, mouth the answer.
