Feb 8th 2012 02:00AM

Manipal University celebrated the 63rd Republic Day with zest and partisan vehemence. KMC Greens, where the gathering took place wore a very colourful look as the institutions were attired in eye-catching shades this time round for the march past, which was remarkable both in turn out and performance. Manipal Institute of Technology continued to be the best contingent in the march past.

Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS) played hosts and Dean Dr Nirmala N Rao welcomed the gathering. Chancellor Dr Ramdas M Pai unfolded the tricolour and inspected the guard of honour. Dr M.V. Kamath, honorary director of Manipal Institute of Communication addressed the gathering. He recalled historic events from the past to which he has been a witness himself as a notable journalist of that time. He made people realize the meaning of Swaraj.

The march past was good as contingents rivaled with each other for the top honours. But MIT was once again unbeatable. Many of the institutions turned out with colourful outfits making it a glorious sight. The hosts were strikingly attractive in their blazing red outfits. Finally, a brief cultural program made for an apt ending.

Later in the evening, the Manipal Family assembled at the Chaitya Hall in Fortune Inn Valley View to felicitate employees who have completed 25 years of discoloration less service and recognize scholars who have done well at the entrance exams 2011 and were entitled to avail the freeship scheme of the University.

The Rajagopal Kadambi awards were also given away to the best all-round students, one each from the health science and technical categories and so were the best poster award to students from health science, technical and management categories. The ISO 9001 and 14001 certificates were presented to the heads of institutions.
