As we are get closer to the fag end of the third year, marks, grades and jobs seem to matter a lot more than learning. So, the importance of the placement season is seemingly increasing by the day. With students desperately trying to attract the recruiters' attention, the experience has been enlightening to say the least.
As I've already mentioned before, a lot of companies made the HR cut (in my previous article here). While most companies that came during December were offering more finance based jobs, January saw a lot of marketing profiles. Finally, students who didn't want to apply for the post of financial analyst or the profile of working in internal audit had an opportunity to try their luck here.
Recruiters from corporations like Godrej Properties, Directi, Milestone Interactive and Viacom 18 are looking for graduates with grasp of communication and marketing skills. So describing their interviews and GDs as grueling is more than an understatement. Interviewers get applicants into frenzy, making them wonder whether they are really good enough to make the cut.
Yours truly here sat for one (or more!) of these, and came back panting to revive one's self worth and confidence. The only face-saving fact that keeps us going is the swagger of belonging to the best college in Mumbai.
Whether the aptitude test, the GDs and the final interview judge the quality and caliber of an applicant in quite the successful manner may be questionable, however the pay packages offered are tempting enough to make application registers full and placement rooms packed (not that that was the only motivation). While Deloitte seemed to have won hands down for the highest pay, this year Godrej Properties seems to be the likely candidate! (I'm not mentioning numbers, but you can trust my word that the remuneration is obscene)
