Winters in Delhi can be outright cruel and a little agility can really help ward off the chill. Students at SRCC therefore have been making appropriate use of the Commonwealth Gymnasium lately. From morning to evening the hustle bustle in the stadium has now become the order of the day. The gymnasium has been build inside the college campus and is home to world class sports facilities.
Badminton, basketball and table tennis have become the hot favorite sports with students lining up for the same everyday in the complex. Some of the sports gear is in the complex itself but it is never enough for the large number of students and players who flock the auditorium. As a result, a lot of people can be seen bringing their own kit. Also, the level of seriousness with which these sports are played by students might just make one believe that commonwealth games have actually not ended in this part of the city. As if the reasons to bunk classes were not plenty, one might add this prominent reason to the never ending list!
The complex is maintained by college authorities and the way the complex is taken care of is worth all the praise. The huge football field right outside the gymnasium is in accordance with the international standards and thus one a center of attraction for the soccer crazy population. And as is the case with most of the playing fields in India, the cricket maniacs can also be found there at all times of the day playing with a zeal that can blow Sachin Tendulkar's mind off!
Quite a few of my friends will plead guilty to missing their classes to stay in gymnasium satiating their sports spirit but I don't hear anyone complaining! And yes, playing off the winter breeze had never been so much fun!
