After spending a nerve-racking month studying for the first ever semester exams, thanks to the new and improved semester system in Delhi University, the First Years were thrilled on getting a whole month's worth of vacation after the strenuous exams. As the Delhi residents prepared themselves for a wintry month of fun ahead, those of us from other cities headed home to spend time with family and friends and take advantage of the comforts of living at home.
As we revelled in the luxury of eating home cooked food, getting pampered by parents and catching up with our friends, we lost track of time and before we knew it, it was time to return to college, a new gruelling class schedule and not to mention the incredibly cold Delhi weather, a unique combination to make even the most enthusiastic college goer weep.
I, for one, was homesick as soon as I was dropped at the airport to catch my flight back to Delhi. The impending cold I would have to face only aggravated my trepidation. However, I landed in Delhi in reasonably good spirits. I got out of the aircraft and was met with a faceful of cool Delhi air that actually made me feel better. As I lugged my bags out of the airport and into the cab, I happily anticipated meeting all of my friends, the one thing I knew would make me feel better.
I walked into the hostel and was greeted with the smiling faces of the bhaiyajis. Pretty soon, I was catching up with all my friends, discussing the holidays, new teachers and sharing college gossip. The first day of college was supremely enriching, despite the hectic new schedule. It felt amazing to be back in a classroom and learning again. The initial excitement of going back to college might just be short-lived and i'm sure petty college worries will soon plague me, but for now, I'm more than happy to be back.
