If an MCCian meets another MCCian, the first question that pops out of his mind will be this-"which hall resident are you?" Yes, like Laurel and Hardy, Jack and Jill, Harry and Sally, MCC and its five halls are inseparable.

Madras Christian College is blessed with five halls - Selaiyur Hall, St.Thomas' Hall, Bishop Heber Hall, Martin Hall and Margaret Hall.The first three are men's halls. There always exists a healthy rivalry among all the halls when it comes to the matter of culturals and sports. Every hall has got its own traditions,emblem and hall song, which they respect and follow with full pride.

Being a proud Martinian and a girl, I think I should start with the St.Thomas' Hall. Every girl in this campus has got a favorite men's hall. During the construction of Martin Hall,the girls were accommodated for a while in St.Thomas' for a while. Since then, Thomas' is considered to be Martin's 'Brother Hall'. Don't worry! It is just for the namesake. We girls don't take it seriously at all.Thomas', like all the other men's halls, was built in 1937. Thomasians are always known for their sportsman spirit and are always known as 'Gentlemen of Tomas''. Well,they are popularly known among the other halls as 'Thayiru vadas' or 'curd vadas'. It is humorously said that during a general body meeting, the Veg mess secretary of Thomas' , who was a Tamilian proposed this idea of including Thayiru Vadas, a part of their regular meals. Since then, our so called 'Bros' are 'Thayiru Vadas'. Thomas' hosts an inter-collegiate dance competition called 'Utsav',which will be followed by a rock show. They follow the tradition of organizing a bullock cart procession on the day of inter hall sports every year.
